Balancing Progress with Preservation

Why Katherine James...

Yesterday

Katherine's roots in Dahlonega date back over

30 years. In that time, she has seen first hand the changes and challenges facing Lumpkin County.

As a Georgia Tech graduate, Katherine has led teams both nationally and internationally, as well as negotiated large contracts with companies such as USPS, Boeing, and Lockheed Martin.

Katherine has supported Lumpkin County citizens serving on the Board of Equalization, where property owners without attorney representation, had a forum to express concerns about increases in their property taxs .

Chairman of the Lumpkin County Republican Party for five years, Katherine's leadership helped to grow membership by over 250%.

Today

Katherine continues to engage with people across Lumpkin County as they voice their frustration about current laws, inconsistencies, and deep concerns about growth and development.

We have experienced over a 40% growth in the

past 10 years, while managing land use with only setbacks and mere buffers.

County taxes continue to rise year after year, and Katherine questions the strained relationship between the city and county, and why over $300,000 of our tax dollars were wasted when Lumpkin County sued the city of Dahlonega?

Katherine is looking forward to mending the relationship between the county and city and will encourage open communication with all residents

of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County.

Tomorrow

I believe that now is the time for fresh ideas and a new approach. We must have leaders who are trusted to have our best interests in mind while having a clear vision for the future. We must eliminate inconsistencies and uncertainties in our laws, if we don’t more wasteful lawsuits will continue at the expense of Lumpkin County residents.

We need to balance growth with consideration of the GA MTN Regional Commission Comprehensive Plan from 2022, where citizens expressed their desires and ideas.

Together, we can foster a working relationship with joint work sessions, collaborative meetings, and shared common goals that benefit all. I will create opportunities for the residents of Lumpkin County

to have their voices heard.

I will raise awareness among property owners so they can protect their property against fraud. With our explosive growth, the chance of fraud increases. Every property owner in Lumpkin County should know how to proactively protect their property when documents related to their property are recorded. This helps individuals detect potential fraud early, like unauthorized deed filings, and take appropriate action. Signing up for these free alerts is a proactive step homeowners can take to protect their property from title theft and scams.

Being in leadership roles throughout my career, I believe in fostering an environment where everyone can feel that they can express ideas, even if those ideas might be different than my own. I will hold quarterly brainstorming sessions, department by department, to identify obstacles and challenges so that we as a county can reach our full potential.

I will stand up against projects that hurt our citizens and support projects that enhance our community.

I will lead Lumpkin to a better future, as we balance progress with preservation- Katherine
